Singapore hosts first 3DX Festival
The five-day festival will comprise conferences with leading international speakers and the screening of 3D movies.
Singapore will play host to the 3DX: 3D Film and Entertainment Technology Festival in November with an exciting line-up of events. The five-day festival from Nov 19 to 23 will comprise conferences with leading international speakers and the screening of 3D movies for the public.
Students, media and technology professionals and the public can watch a wide variety of 3D films, including features, documentaries, animation and shorts. Alongside the screenings, there will be a business forum, film festival, and a gala red carpet event. Dr Christopher Chia, chief executive officer of Media Development Authority, says: '3DX will not only take the lead in gathering the advocates, creators and technology companies in 3D stereoscopic entertainment, it will also serve as a platform for participants to deliberate on the latest trends and developments in 3D.' The festival also aims to bridge the East and West by bringing together Asian and Western producers, and makers of 3D content, using Singapore as the focal point for the exchange of ideas on 3D content production, development and technology. Some of the festival highlights will include film screenings such as Journey to the Festival Centre of the Earth; Fly Me to the Moon, Dolphins and Whales 3D: Tribes of the Ocean, and U2 3D. The media luminaries and speakers include the producers of the 3D films, and others such as Mr Shekhar Kapur (filmmaker and director and International Advisory Panel member of MDA) and Mr Dan Glickman, chairman and chief executive officer of Motion Picture Association of America. In addition, 3D technology experts will exhibit a wide variety of new products, including 3D mobile phones, video games, live television, home theatre entertainment systems and computer hardware and software. A variety of ticket packages is available for students, media and technology professionals and the public. A special student package for the screenings will be available at $65 and executive forum packages will be available in limited quantities. For screenings, tickets can be purchased in packages or for individual screenings. Some of the backers of the festival are MDA, Singapore Tourism Board, Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore and the Economic Development Board. The festival is produced by Chabin Partners.
