MUSIC fans can be rabid and quite persistent when it comes to collecting souvenirs after concerts, as concert promotion company LAMC has found.
Mr Andre Alabons, promotions manager there, was approached by a teenager last year after a Muse concert.
'He offered me $50 for my backstage pass,' he says.
Ms Laurietta Alaabons, director of LAMC, says that this is not uncommon. 'There's a huge demand from fans for memorabilia from concerts,' she says.
'And many of them call up telling us that they hadn't enough money to buy souvenirs on the day of the concert, and request that we sell them the items.'
Which is why the company decided to launch an eBay store last week.
A quick browse of its site - they sell under the name lamcproductions7shop on eBay.com - shows that it has put up roughly 120 items for sale, ranging from security passes for concerts like metal band Megadeth, Slayer street banners to concert T-shirts.
Items range from $7 for a photo or security pass, to $85 for the Slayer banner, which was used to promote the band's concert here in 2006. The store sells items for a 'buy it now' price, which means that you don't have to bid in an auction fashion.
They may well be among the first concert promoters in Singapore to open such a store, although fan memorabilia is not uncommon on eBay. Searches for say, concert posters, come up with around 3,600 items for sale. Everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Beyonce and Eric Clapton can be found in that broad search, with prices ranging from around US$8 (S$11).
So far, LAMC has got 'quite good' business, according to Mr Alabons. About 10 people a day buy items from their store, with around 116 sales so far.
In the meantime, their store has been hit by mostly overseas buyers who regularly trawl the Web.
Buyer keira219 from Australia, for example, bought one Incubus Light Grenades World Tour T-Shirt and called it a 'top quality product' in her feedback for the store.
Buyer honeyhelen22, located in Hong Kong, bought a Duran Duran T-shirt and called the item 'hip'.
Rock fans will be pleased to hear that auctions for more exclusive items such as signed posters are expected to take place in the future.
