I DON'T totally agree with the report 'Asian staff afraid to challenge bosses' (my paper, May 8).

In the past, Asian workers typically displayed proper work ethics and possessed a sense of belonging to their job.

In short, they were subservient to their bosses.

Today's Asian workers are more educated and aware of their rights and expectations.

Many bosses have also realised that they cannot take their employees for granted.

Many years ago, the employer could dictate what his staff should or should not do.

But not so nowadays, as employees expect the right to know the rationale behind each instruction.

It is sad that some Western employers still believe Asian workers are meek and dare not raise a whimper if they are poorly treated.

Such a misconception can do more harm than good, especially in our global economy.

Workers no longer regard bosses as an almighty breed of people who should not be questioned and argued with.

Most importantly, bosses, whether Western or otherwise, should regard modern-day employees in entirely new light - as a force to be reckoned with.
