TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Four Taiwanese firms rank among the top 10 information technology companies in the world, boasting the highest ratio of its kind in the world, according to Business Week's 2009 ranking of the tops in tech showcasing companies that managed to thrive even in the face of a bruising global recession.
On the top-10 list, Taiwan-based Inventec ranked No. 4, Quanta Computer No. 7, Wistron No.8 and Acer No. 10.
Besides the four makers, five more Taiwanese info tech firms are also among the top 100 list, including HTC (No. 13), Hon Hai Precision (No. 40), Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (No. 48), Compal Electronic (No. 50) and Simplo Technology (No. 52).
On another front, Taiwan's top 10 info tech firms managing to thrive in global downturn are, in declining order, Wistron, HTC, Quanta, Inventec, Acer, Taiwan Mobile, Simplo, Softworld, TSMC, Senao.
Of the top 10 firms, Wistron, Qunta, and Inventec are contract manufacturers.
The Business Week survey showed that of the world's top 100 info tech firms, 34 saw their revenues decline in 2008, 88 firms witnessed their listed share prices drop from a year earlier.
