S'pore firms could be more charitable

Corporate giving is still new while sums donated are small, says study.

COMPANIES here are not a generous lot, suggests a new study on corporate philanthropy.

The study has found that of the companies which donated to charity in 2005 and 2006, about half gave less than 0.1 per cent of their pre-tax profits.

The bright side is that companies are generally open to giving, with 71 per cent of those surveyed giving to charity in 2005 and 2006, either in cash or kind.
