FOR Ms Julie Ong, 31, a yen for better work-life balance and job satisfaction prompted her to take a major life decision.

She left her tax-accountant job six years ago and retrained as a physiotherapist, earning a three-year Nanyang Polytechnic (NP) diploma and a one-year degree at the University of Sydney. She now works at the National University Hospital (NUH).

Would-be mid-career switchers like Ms Ong are now being wooed by NUH, with 550 vacancies to be filled. Three hundred are nursing positions.

Ms Christine Loh, NUH senior executive of corporate communications, said the hospital will give a survival allowance to applicants for the following jobs that require retraining: nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and diagnostic radiography.

They must earn a three-year NP diploma through the Professional Conversion Programme supported by the Workforce Development Agency.

Walk-in interviews will be held tomorrow from 9am to 12.30pm at NUH Kent Ridge Wing 2 Lobby. Positions in human resource, finance, operations and coporate communications are also available
