Upgrading delay is costing residents
Readers says completion date has been changed twice, and has not seen workers on weekdays. -myp
THE lift-upgrading programme (LUP) for Blocks 43 to 54 at Lengkok Bahru is in progress. The upgrading in a number of blocks has been completed, and the lifts are up and running. However, the completion date of the LUP at Blocks 46 and 47 has been changed twice. Completion for both blocks was initially slated for the third quarter of this year. Two days ago, the date was moved to November. Residents have been wondering why the schedule has not been kept to. I am not sure if the HDB is aware of this. My daughter, who is often at home after school, told me that there are no workers to be seen from Mondays to Fridays. I am home on weekends, and see workers at the site as early as 8am on Saturdays, creating noise and dust at that time of day. The open area at Block 47 has also become a dumping ground, with the possibility of becoming a breeding zone for mosquitoes. I have spoken to the contractor, but no action has been taken. The delay is continuing at residents' expense. If workers had been deployed daily, the upgrading at both blocks could surely have been completed according to plan. Who will foot the bill for the delay? Mr Joshua Tan
