When popular couples part ways, fans expressing their opinions on the news is inevitable. This was the case for Suzy and Lee Dong-wook, who shocked their admirers when their managements announced on July 2 that they have broken up after four months of dating.

Some netizens are accusing Suzy of being a "serial-dater," even going as far as to labeling the K-pop star as the "Taylor Swift of Hallyu (Korean wave) and South Korea" on Twitter, after K-pop website Soompi broke the news.

Taylor Swift had been criticised in the past for her "long list of ex-lovers," with some netizens openly slut-shaming the award-winning singer.

As for Suzy, some followers indeed seem to be harbouring resentment. One netizen, @leesa_twt, echoed the criticisms by saying in a Twitter post, "Taylor Swift of Hallyu or what?"

But Suzy's fans were quick to defend her. One fan, #DanceTheNightAway (@kindubu) stated that Suzy being likened to Taylor Swift is not bad, as the American pop star is at the top of the music industry: "If she's the Taylor Swift of South Korea, well soon she'll be touring a stadium tour, selling platinums and platinums of songs and albums, have 10 Grammys and become one of the best female [artists] in the world. It ain't that bad."

Another fan, kdrama chingu (@itsurchingu), pointed out that Suzy has only dated two guys since her debut in 2010: "here we go again with comments saying she's the taylor swift of korea. SHE JUST DATED TWO PERSONS SO…. DON'T @ US IF YOU ARE GOING TO INCLUDE THOSE SHE HAD PAIR IN A DRAMA."

Prior to dating Lee Dong-wook, Suzy dated actor Lee Min-ho for two-and-a-half years, from 2015 to 2017. The two cited unspecified personal reasons as the cause of their break-up, although it was speculated that Min-ho's mandatory military public service may be the reason.

Netizens are asking who will Suzy's next "victim" be. Moreover, because both her ex-boyfriends have the same surname "Lee," netizens were asking who is the next "Lee" Suzy will date. One netizen, VIPCarat (@sarcxmpmo), even called the K-pop star a "Lee taker."

But some fans turned our to be seriously contemplative about the issue. A certain Namoo (@xxAsSaToOUxx) pointed out the fact that while Suzy is receiving a backlash over the break-up, no one is saying anything about her ex-boyfriend.

Other fans echoed this thought. One fan, A Girl Has No Name (@narotaekim), said: "This is sad and disgusting even. All the negative attention and hate goes to the girl when a couple breaks up..it's always the girls fault. I hope Suzy is doing okay with all these media articles revolving around her love life."

Another fan, TAEHYUNG KIM (@kththebae), also noted that most of the negative comments on Suzy came from women who are supposed to empower their fellow women.

"I don't get why people hate on Suzy like come on, she dated 2 guys and broke up, what's wrong with that. And the sad thing is, most of the mean comments are from women. I mean aren't women supposed to support fellow women. Every normal girl goes through break up," remarked the fan.
