HOW do I price my product if I do not know the inflation rate of the country where I'm distributing it to? What is the potential size of the market for my business? Who are my competitors, and how can I find out more about
Often, questions like these are at the back of every entrepreneur's mind when they start expanding their business. To help you find the answers and make more informed business decisions, the National Library Board (NLB) has over 20 business-relevant databases that entrepreneurs can access via its eResources website at eresources.nlb.gov.sg
These databases provide information ranging from import-export data to business directories, international or local laws and regulations, product innovation and processes, and competitive intelligence. Examples include Business Monitor International, Euromonitor Global Market Information Database, Economist Intelligence Unit reports, Informa Law, Jupiter Research and many more.
To access these databases, all you need to do is to register for the NLB Digital Library (DL) account. The DL account registration is free for all NLB members. Singaporeans and permanent residents can sign up as NLB members online at NLB's website. All other applicants can register at their nearest library (except Sengkang Public Library). Registration is easy and a DL account can be done within minutes by going through the following steps:
1. Visit NLB's eResources website at eresources.nlb.gov.sg
2. Click on 'Register' and enter your personal details and create your own user ID and password.
Entrepreneurs who need help accessing these databases or who require information customised to their needs may turn to the Enterprise One Business Information Service (EBIS) for assistance. EBIS, an initiative by the Singapore Business Federation, SPRING Singapore, National Library Board Singapore and International Enterprise Singapore, provides businesses with a suite of information services that includes the latest industry updates and research reports, focused industry workshops and access to business information resources through the guidance of info-consultants.
EBIS members have the additional benefit of requesting customised reports. For example, customised information can be provided on contracts/tenders that these members are eligible to bid for both locally and overseas.
It is beneficial to tap these resources for the benefit of your business. Visit www.ebis.sg or call EBIS at tel: 6827-6830 for more details.
If you have forgotten your Digital Library user ID or password, please call 6332-3255 between 9am and 9pm (except public holidays).
