Bus-load of IT solutions for SMEs

SMALL and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) looking to rev up their businesses can hitch a ride on a bus-load of information technology (IT) solutions coming their way.

The IBM Mobile Express is a bus retrofitted with computers equipped with business solutions specially tailored for SMEs.

It started making door-to-door visits to business premises around the island last Thursday and aims to reach 10,000 firms before it hits the brakes on Saturday.

Business people can climb on board and learn about enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management, supply chain solutions, messaging and collaboration, and data security.

'The bus is a good idea, as it allows me to be introduced to a lot of new technologies and solutions at the same time,' said Mr Yang Zhong Dong, IT director of recruitment firm Kelly Services Singapore.

Mr Satbir Katyal, the Thakral Group's general manager of finance for South Asia, agreed. 'This is a unique and novel experience. I receive undivided attention on the bus, as compared to at an exhibition.'

The bus, which was launched at the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry's 10th SMEs Conference last week, has already covered large parts of central, western and northern Singapore. The bus will make stops in the south - Tiong Bahru, Commonwealth, Clementi - and east - Kaki Bukit, Loyang, Changi - over the rest of the week.
