GREENPAC (S) is fast gaining a strong foothold in what it does best: providing innovative packaging solutions that are environmentally friendly and which help customers reduce waste and cut costs.
Its chief executive officer Susan Chong says the company had always prided itself on being a knowledge-based, asset-light company.
'As a knowledge-based company, we do not produce our own packaging materials but work with key suppliers to customise environmentally friendly packaging according to the needs of each client,' she explains.
Since its establishment in 2002, the company has built up a diverse portfolio of clients from the electronics and semiconductor, aerospace, broadcast, defence and medical industries that use the packaging solutions Greenpac designs.
At present, Greenpac has 40 strategic alliance partners whom it works with - including contract manufacturers and suppliers - to produce the packaging according to the specifications that the company designs for each client.
In providing the environmentally friendly packaging, it also aims to help its clients comply with international environmentally friendly standards and regulations for packaging materials, and reduce waste in the use of materials by re-engineering the packaging.
For example, its Revolutionary Systems Concept Packaging - which uses a nail-less technology that saves time in packing and unpacking - is a collapsible system that allows for efficiency in storage, and uses a wood-based material that is environmentally friendly.
'Even in the last two to three years, our business has been sustainable because we value-add to the business of our clients, and that in turn helps them achieve cost savings,' says Ms Chong.
She adds that proposing suitable packaging designs for clients requires an in-depth product knowledge of the different packaging materials and how they can be used to tailor to clients' packaging needs.
It helps that Greenpac holds the exclusive distributor rights to 32 types of environmentally friendly packaging material in the Asia- Pacific region.
This is the second time that Greenpac is an Enterprise 50 award winner.
'The award is a definite leverage for the business and helps us know that we are on the right track,' says Ms Chong.
'This in turn helps customers to have confidence in us, and we will continue to train and learn as an important process of growing.'
She also notes that as more environmental 'green' policies are formulated, businesses gain the awareness that being green may gradually become a requisite to doing business.
Ms Chong notes that Greenpac has positioned itself to be ready to serve these businesses.
'We have currently already expanded to Japan and Korea.
'The market potential for what we do is big, and we want to continue focusing on our strengths to keep growing,' she says.
