I RUN a chain of restaurants and want to improve staff service standards. Are there any assistance programmes or schemes?
YOU can consider the Customer-Centric Initiative (CCI). The CCI is a national effort to encourage companies to be committed to service excellence, take the lead in raising service standards in their industry and transform Singapore's service quality.
The initiative supports projects undertaken by food and beverage (F&B) businesses to improve service levels and benchmark themselves against industry standards.
Your projects may involve:
- Mystery diner audits to identify service gaps;
- Service leadership development among staff;
- Implementation of customer relationship management systems; and
- Certification under Singapore Service Class.
Businesses can also use the Service Standards developed under CCI to audit and measure their service levels. Service Standards are available for casual dining restaurants, and pubs and clubs.
Safety rules for imports
I AM planning to import electrical appliances from China to sell in Singapore. Are there safety requirements to be met?
YES, if the electrical appliances are in the list of Controlled Goods under the Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Registration Scheme (CPS), they have to meet product safety standards.
Spring Singapore manages the CPS Scheme, which covers 45 categories of household electrical, electronic and gas products.
If your imported product is among the controlled goods, you can send it to any of the recognised testing laboratories and designated certification bodies for testing and certification.
The list of 45 categories of household electrical, electronic and gas products, and the contact details of the testing and certification bodies can be found at www.spring.gov.sg/safety
A copy of the Singapore Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Registration Scheme Information Booklet is also available for download.
