Of 1,000 people surveyed in Singapore, the top three office peeves turned out to be: people not taking ownership for their actions, dirty common areas (such as a dirty communal microwave or refrigerator), and constant complainers.
Job hunters here should also note that 74 per cent of hiring managers in the Singapore are peeved by people "showing up late for meetings."
Apart from cultural differences seen in the survey, it also revealed gender differences. For instance, in Singapore, 57 per cent of Singaporean women were bothered by "clothing that's too revealing for the workplace" - but only 29 per cent of Singaporean men had a problem with this.
The universal peeve - regardless of gender or country - is "people not taking ownership for their actions."
"Some of the seemingly harmless workplace habits, such as people not taking ownership for actions can result in conflicts in the workplace," said Chan Ngee Key, Career Coach & Strategist at YourOwn360.
"Most of these can be easily resolved. For example, taking ownership is not just about doing your task well, but also about ensuring that your whole team works collaboratively. Always put yourself in the shoes of your coworkers to recognize how changing some habits will help create a more favourable impression of you in the workplace."
