Employers should not be discriminatory in job ads
Mon, Jul 14, 2008
my paper

WE REFER to the report 'Are employers allowed to hire based on nationality' (my paper, July 8).

The Tripartite Centre For Fair Employment has interviewed the licensee of the recruitment agency responsible for the offensive advertisement.

She is highly apologetic for any offence her advertisement might have caused and has since removed the offensive phrase.

With our advice, she has reviewed the agency's hiring and advertising practices. She will also attend a workshop organised by the centre on fair employment agencies in staff recruitment and selection.

The Tripartite Centre For Fair Employment would like to remind employers that they should not use discriminatory phrases in job advertisements.

Employers are encouraged to approach the centre for advice on their hiring practices so that they are non-discriminatory and based on merit.

The centre can be contacted by telephone at 6838-0969, by sending an e-mail to query@fairemployment.sg or at www.fairemployment.sg
