Are some jobs really shunned?
Tue, Nov 11, 2008
my paper

SINGAPOREANS are generally realistic, and accept that the country needs foreign workers to promote and sustain economic growth.

However, it is wrong to assume that jobs largely carried out by foreign workers are those which are shunned by locals.

There is a possibility that employers are using this as an excuse to employ more foreigners, who are willing to work for lower wages.

The foreign-worker policy needs to be constantly updated and re-evaluated, and its social and economic impact on citizens regularly assessed.
