Ease jams? Stagger work hours
Sat, Jun 14, 2008
The Straits Times

IN THE light of soaring oil prices, traffic congestion and air pollution, I would like to make a bold proposition to all businesses and government sectors: Stagger the working hours of all staff into four time slots - 25per cent to work from 8am to 5pm, 25per cent to work from 8.30am to 5.30pm, 25per cent to work from 9am to 6pm, and 25per cent to work from 9.30am to 6.30pm.

Of course, this will need the cooperation of all workers.

Staggering the working hours can help ease the congestion at MRT stations and on the roads. This means reducing the time spent on travelling, thus helping motorists to save on petrol and reduce air pollution.
