TOKYO - Japan's economy grew at a faster-than-expected annualised pace of 4.8 per cent in the third quarter of 2009, extending a recovery from its worst downturn in decades, official data showed Monday.

Gross domestic product (GDP) expanded 1.2 per cent from the previous three-month period, rebounding for a second straight quarter after a severe year-long recession, the government reported.
