New sectors emerging

PM Lee cited the digital and interactive media industry as a blossoming industry in Singapore.

Leading players like gaming giant Electronic Arts and Lucasfilm, and other companies from Europe and Japan like Ubisoft and Koei Entertainment have already set up operations here.

The pool of local talent in this industry is also growing to meet this demand, with many polytechnics like Nanyang Polytechnic and institutions offering digital media courses.

That Singapore is still attracting multi-national companies to Singapore is testament to the "Singapore brand name", said PM Lee.

He noted that the brand name gives companies confidence, and "we should never lose this advantage".

He also cited the example of Rolls Royce, which moved its marine operation global headquarters to Singapore, and will give 500 mostly-skilled jobs when operational.

The Economic Development Board is engaging many other MNCs in strategic dialogue and working out five to 10 year plans with them, said PM Lee.
