SINGAPORE shares opened higher on Friday with the benchmark Straits Times Index up 17.02 points, or 0.65 per cent, at 2,653.21.

About 103.7 million shares exchanged hands in the first few minutes of trading.

Gainers beat losers 143 to 14.
