March retail sales fall 5.1%

>SINGAPORE'S March retail sales fell a seasonally adjusted 5.1 per cent from February due to lower sales of motor vehicles, government data showed on Friday.

Excluding motor vehicles, retail sales rose a seasonally adjusted 3.3 per cent from February, according to the Department of Statistics' retail sales index.

Compared with a year ago, March retail sales fell 7.3 per cent as consumers spent less on jewellery, household equipment and motor vehicles, the data showed.
