Mon, Dec 15, 2008
Reuters
>TOKYO, JAPAN - BANK of Japan (BOJ) Governor Masaaki Shirakawa said the nation's economy may contract in the fiscal year starting next April 1, the Financial Times reported on Monday.

In an interview with the newspaper, Shirakawa declined to discuss speculation about the possibility that Japan may intervene in the currency market to curb the yen's recent rapid rise.

But he was quoted as saying: 'At the end of the day, the exchange rate is determined by market forces.'
