THE annual search is on again to recognise leading Singapore players in the global market, and for the first time, it will honour the top 10 internationalising Small Medium Enterprises (SME).

The prestigious Singapore International (SI) 100 Ranking, into its fourth year, will kick off its annual exercise on May 9.

The SI 100 is a national initiative by International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, with DP information Group (DP Info) as the ranking organisation. It ranks companies based on highest overseas revenue and performance in nine key markets or regions.

The highlight of this year is a new category - Top Ten Internationalising SMEs - to recognise the global achievements of leading Singapore SMEs.

This new category, which is also based on highest overseas revenue, is in line with the growing number of SMEs seeking growth opportunities in overseas markets, said an IE Singapore statement on Tuesday.

Eligible SMS must have:

- Annual sales / turnover of less than S$ 80 million,

- Fixed assets of less than S$15 million,

- At least 30 per cent Singapore equity and not a subsidiary of a public listed company.

Mr Ted Tan, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of IE Singapore and Chairman of the SI 100 Steering Committee said: 'In the past, only the larger, more established companies would have an internationalisation strategy.

'Today, any company seeking growth would need to think strategically about how to tap on opportunities overseas. SMEs which are innovative and quick to identify and tap on niche opportunities will have the leading edge.

'We are heartened to note that more SMEs are now moving out of their comfort zones to export or invest abroad, and many have done this with great success.'

He said the new SMEs category will recognise the enterprising spirit of those that have been successful in venturing abroad and become role models for more SMEs to follow in their footsteps.

The SI 100 Ranking celebrates Singapore's Top 100 companies ranked by highest overseas revenue.

It also acknowledges the top companies with the largest revenue contributions from the following key overseas markets: Africa, the Americas, China, Europe, India, the Middle East, North Asia, Oceania and South-east Asia.

Through this ranking, IE Singapore aims to raise awareness of high growth markets, and celebrate leading Singapore companies that have made internationalisation and international business an integral part of their corporate strategy.

All Singapore-based companies are invited to participate by submitting their latest audited financial statements to DP Information Group by May 31 to:
