FedEx's new economy service targets SMEs

FedEx Express has introduced a new service targeting customers - especially small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) - looking for a more economical alternative to send less urgent parcels abroad.

The new FedEx International Economy® service is available in Singapore and nine other countries in the Asia Pacific region, including Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Taiwan and Thailand.

In March, the service will extend to another three countries, namely Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam.

Explaining the reason for such a service, David L Cunningham Jr., president, FedEx Express Asia Pacific, said: "We believe there is a clear demand for a service that lies between our premium International Priority express service and the regular postal service."

"Our International Economy service meets that need for customers, and at the same time broadens the portfolio of shipping options that FedEx offers," he added.

SMEs will benefit

According to FedEx, SMEs are among those that will benefit from the International Economy service as the Asia Pacific has the largest concentration of SMEs worldwide.

FedEx International Economy typically delivers intra-Asia packages in two business days. Shipments to the US will usually arrive in three to four business days while those to major markets in Europe are expected to take four to five business days.

Customers who wish to track their parcels can use fedex.com for online tracking with proactive e-mail notification in English or 15 other languages.

For more details on the service, customers can call the local FedEx hotline at 1800 743 2626.
