Foreign domestic worker levy concession extended to disabled employers

Disabled employers or employers with disabled dependents will be able to apply for the Foreign Domestic Worker (FDW) Levy Concession (Persons with disability) from Sep 15.

According to a media statement from the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, "a dependant
is defined as the employer's child, grandchild, spouse, sibling, sibling-in-law, parent, parent-in-law, grandparent or grandparent-in-law who is staying together with the employer".

The initiative to extend the levy concession was first announced by Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, in March. It will be administered by the National Council of Social Service.

Eligible employers will enjoy a concessionary levy rate of $170 a month.

To apply, they will need to send the person with disability for a medical check-up to assess his or her ability to perform activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting and mobility.

They will also have to pay for the medical examination, which should be done by appointed assessors.

Visit the Disability portal to find out who and where the appointed doctors are. Application form and details about the FDW Levy Concession (Persons with disability) can also be found at the website.

No need to rush to apply

For applications that are received on or before Dec 31 and are assessed as eligible, the concessionary levy will commence on Oct 1 or the date of the application of work permit for the FDW, whichever is later.

For applications that are received after Dec 31, the concessionary levy will start on the 1st of the
following month after the application is approved.
