KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA - Civil servants have been advised against looking for part-time jobs to supplement their income in the face of the recent fuel hike.

Human Resources Deputy Minister Datuk Noraini Ahmad said the suggestion by Cuepacs would not contribute to productivity in the civil service.

She said government regulations prohibited civil servants from taking up other jobs.

"The ministry does not encourage this because it will affect productivity in the civil service," she said after officiating at Harian Metro/Secret Garden Mothers Day Awards 2008 at a hotel here.

On the demand by the Malaysian Trades Union Congress for a RM300 blanket increase in the cost of living allowance, she said discussions were going on between with employers and workers.
Meanwhile, three mothers were honoured for raising their families in the face of adversity.

The three were Hasnah Hashim, 70, of Selangor, Terengganu native Wan Maimun Mohamed, 70, and Norhayati Low Abdullah, 42. Their gifts included a tour package.
