Taxis also slap card surcharge

MRS Ong-Ang Ai Boon (my paper, April 30) said merchants are to absorb the credit card transaction charges and not to pass them on to consumers.

However, it is not unusual for taxi operators to impose a surcharge on fares paid by credit cards.

According to their websites, a 10 per cent administrative charge is applicable on top of the metered fare for credit card and charge card payments.
