Offices, shops, restaurant/F&B/cafe, arts/dance/drama studio..these are some of the innovative ways that old schools may be used.
Under the Ideas Tender Scheme, which was launched in 2005, bidders are allowed to also submit alternative bids for innovative uses for the property.
Two former school sites may yet turn into a different character altogether as they are offered for tender.
The tender for the former Mee Toh School at 375 Race Course Road garnered an overwhelming response of 20 bids from 14 bidders when it was launched under the Ideas Tender Scheme in December last year. The highest bid of $103,998 came from Cambridge Institute Pte Ltd, which bidded about $34,600 more than the guide rent. It proposes to use the land as a commercial school.
The property has an estimated GFA of 2,650 sqm and is being offered on a 3-year tenancy with an option to renew for 2 further terms of 3 years and 2 years respectively, subject to terms.
Meanwhile, the site for the former Jurong Town Primary School located at 3 Hu Ching Road, was launched by the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) for open tender today, with a guide rental of $61, 200. In a press statement released by the SLA, it said that it has already received 12 queries for the site.
The building has a gross floor area (GFA) of about 4108 sqm and its approved uses are office, arts/dance/drama studio, commercial school or foreign system school, childcare/student care/kindergarten, student hostel, association, and convalescent/nursing home.
The property is located beside Jurong Secondary School, and is near the Fairway Country Club, Jurong Park, as well as the Lakeside MRT station. The property will be on a 3-year tenancy with an option to renew for 2 further terms of 3 years each subject to terms.
The tender will remain open for five weeks from today until 11 am of February 17, 2009.
