HDB checks on sublet flats twice a year

I REFER to the letter "Concern over foreign workers in HDB flats" (my paper, April 24).

The relaxation of HDB's sub-letting policy is to give flat owners greater flexibility to monetise their flats. For example, elderly flat owners can make use of HDB's sub-letting policy to rent out their flats and earn a rental income to meet retirement needs.

It is important that we uphold the quality living environment and preserve neighbourly relations in our HDB estates.

Flat owners who sublet their flats must comply with the terms and conditions set out by HDB.

They must ensure that the number of subtenants does not exceed the occupancy limit and that their subtenants do not cause disamenities to the neighbouring units.

On its part, HDB conducts half-yearly flat inspections for approved subletting cases, and it will revoke the subletting approval for flat owners found to have breached the subletting conditions.

We would appreciate it if Ms Serene Tan could contact Mr Ho Hwee Keng, Head of Bedok Branch Office, at 6424-7301 to provide further information so that we can follow up on her feedback.
